An eclectic musician, he began his career as a composer after success at international composition competitions such Bulgarian Choir Union in Sofia in 2009, selection for the Academy of Biennale di Venezia in 2007,  “Euritmia” International Composition Competition in 2007, Corale Universitaria di Torino in 2006. As a composer, he took part in important seasons and festivals like the 64th Season of Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano and Musica Viva Festival in Belem, Portugal.

He founded and guided events such as Antal Doráti International Conducting Competition in Budapest, European Union Conducting Competition in Sofia, Capriccio Italiano Festival in Florence, the Easter Festival, and Musica nei Chiostri in Prato, Florence String Quartet Call for Scores with the patronage of institutions such as Regione Toscana and its most important towns. In Prato, he guides the biggest entirely private school of music of the province, Artes School of Music.

As a conductor he has recently gained an international reputation thanks to his Warner Classics CD with I Solisti della Scala, praised with words such as: “imposing performance” (Enrico Girardi, il Corriere della Sera), “highest standards of intonation and blend” and “beautifully lyrical and detailed” (Remy Franck, Pizzicato), “Fabulous” (Colin Clarke, Fanfare), “sharp and accurate” (Angelo Foletto, La Repubblica).

He collaborates with several orchestras and ensembles in Europe, USA, Russia, and Asia, such as I Solisti del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, “ERT” Greek National Radio Television Orchestra, Budapest Symphony Orchestra MÁV, Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, The Soloists Of Russia Chamber Orchestra, Korea Soloists Orchestra, Argento Ensemble New York, Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra, Khabarovsk Symphony Orchestra etc.

Andrea has conducted in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Seul Art Center in Seul, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Sala Verdi in Milan.

His discographic debut on the podium of the Ensemble BIOS, with Arnold Schönbergs’s Pierrot Lunaire, featuring Anna Clementi as a soloist, has raised international critic’s enthusiastic attention (American Record Guide, Das Orchester, Limelight Magazine, Musica Magazine, Amadeus etc…) and is considered by the critic a “One must have” recording.

Andrea Vitello is a keen interpreter of the contemporary repertoire. He conducted premiéres -both in concert and recording- by authors such as Peter Eötvös, Tristan Murail, Oliver Schneller, Andrea Portera, Alessio Elia, Albertas Navickas, Rita Ueda and promotes young composers discovering and conducting their music.

Andrea is also an enthusiastic ambassador of Italian music and rediscovered and conducted several neglected works by less known Italian composers, such as Guido Alberto Fano, Silvio Omizzolo, Mario Pilati, Gian Francesco Malipiero.
